Millefiori Patchwork Clay by Priscilla Wentworth
Eighteen years ago while I was using fabric to make patchwork, I saw the work of several artists who adapted the millefiori glass process to polymer clay. To me it seemed like three dimensional patchwork, and I soon attempted to answer my lifelong question: How can I get this to do that? I'm still cutting and piecing, but the concepts I was exploring with fabric have been exponentially expanded as I continue to explore them instead with polymer clay.
Millefiori was invented by glass makers, and means "thousand flowers" in Italian. I build each of my original designs from the middle out with colored polymer clay. A thin slice of the design makes each section of PatchWork Clay.
